Board clarifies position on verification of military pensioners The Military Pension Board on Tuesday said contrary to the information available in the public space, it is not carrying out any verification exercise now. The position of the Board was contained in a statement by its Public Relations Officer, Squadron Leader Ikenna Ezendu. The statement said: “The attention of Military Pension Board (MPB) has been drawn to numerous false online information circulating among its pensioners as regards to Military Pension Verification Exercise. The unauthorised information are being circulated by some unscrupulous people to mislead pensioners. MPB hereby disassociate itself from such deceptive online information. “The Board wishes to state categorically that it has no plans for now to conduct any verification exercise anywhere in the country. The Board in collaboration with Ministry of Defence will notify its esteemed pensioners and stakeholders when it concludes

Buhari wrong to refer restructuring to National Assembly – Agbakoba A former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Dr. Olisa Agbakoba (SAN), has critisised President Muhammadu Buhari for referring the widespread call for the nation’s restructuring to the National Assembly and the National Council of State. According to Agbakoba, Buhari’s approach was wrong because it was not in agreement with Section 5 of the 1999 Constitution, which vests the responsibility to restructure the country in no one else but the President. “The President has delegated the responsibility to restructure Nigeria to the National Assembly and the National Council of State. But this responsibility cannot be delegated. Section 5 of the constitution vests the President with executive powers of the federation and these include the power to restructure Nigeria,” Agbakoba said on Tuesday. Corruption scandal slashes president’s rating to 3% Brazilian President, Michel Temer, who is embroiled in a massive corruption scandal, has seen his popularity drop to an abysmal three percent, a poll showed Thursday. In July, five percent of people surveyed by the Brazilian Institute of Public Opinion and Statistics said the government was “good” or “very good.” The number of people who see Temer’s management “bad” or “very bad” has jumped to 77 percent from 70 percent, while 16 percent deem it “acceptable.” When asked whether they trust Temer, 92 percent said no. A total of 2,000 residents of 126 Brazilian cities were surveyed September 15-20. A separate poll by CNT/MDA from September 19 found 3.4 percent support for Temer, the most unpopular Brazilian leader since the 1964-1985 dictatorship.
