Alves on target as PSG win Champions Trophy G New Brazilian recruit Dani Alves powered Paris Saint-Germain to their first title of the season beating Monaco 2-1 in the Champions Trophy final on Saturday. It was a fifth straight trophy for the Parisians in the traditional curtain-raiser to the French season to put them level with Lyon’s record of seven titles. The match was touted as a revenge mission for both sides with PSG losing their Ligue 1 title to Monaco, with the Principality side crushed 4-1 by the Parisians in the League Cup final. Against a backdrop of intense transfer speculation linking Brazilian superstar Neymar from Barcelona to PSG and Monaco’s French teen striker Kylian Mbappe to a world record move to Real Madrid, the match was played in front of a capacity 45,000 crowd in Tangiers. Every move of 18-year-old Mbappe drove the Monaco game forward to the excitement of the crowd with the loudspeaker even attributing Djibril Sidibe’s 30-minute

Why the arrival of Sead Kolasinac means Arsene Wenger must persist with a 3-4-3 formation?   Although Arsenal supporters will undoubtedly be licking their lips at the prospect of Alexandre Lacazette taking to the Emirates pitch this year, it is another signing that has been quietly impressing. Sead Kolasinac, the 23-year-old Bosnian defender, arrived from Bundesliga side FC Schalke as Arsenal’s only other signing so far this summer and it is fair to say he’s made quite the impression. Yes it’s only been a few pre-season cameo appearances, and yes it’s hard to read too much into performances and results, but Kolasinac seems to have settled in straight away and looks like he could become a real asset as Arsenal look for an improved season after last years’ disappointment in the Premier League. The Bosnian took to the Emirates field for the first time on Saturday afternoon for the Gunners’ Emirates Cup opener a

The British player was offered protection by Islamic inmates after several other convicts allegedly threatened to slash his throat.   In helping him with protection, the Muslim gang said the 30-year-old must convert to Islam as part of the deal. Sources have told the Daily Star that Johnson has been spotted praying but has yet to join the religion. One source said: 'At first he was unwilling to take up the offer because he thought he was going to get a transfer out of Moorland, but that’s a non-starter. 'Now it looks like he is having second thoughts because he doesn’t have any friends who are tough enough to watch his back and prison can be a very lonely place if so

Pep Guardiola’s stars threatened to give Spurs a real Honky Tonkin’ in the home of country music – but a raft of missed chances in the second half spared Mauricio Pochettino’s men a big hammering. But the City boss wasn’t too unhappy as goals from England stars John Stones, Raheem Sterling and Brahim Diaz – who all scored in the 4-1 win over Real Madrid – closed their tour in style. Stones headed City in front after ten minutes following a Kevin de Bruyne free kick and Sterling grabbed a 73 minute breakaway second . It should have been more with second half sub Sergio Aguero twice hitting the post before Spanish teenager Brahim Diaz wrapped up the scoring in added time. Victory was a deserved one for Ernesto Valverde’s men although both sides could have scored plenty more goals in an open encounter fitting of a pre-season friendly. Greatest strengths Certainly, both Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho found uses for him. He would so often be Van Gaal’s Plan B. When United were chasing a result, their tactics would focus on lumping the ball up to the big target man. It wielded results and Fellaini played the best football of his United spell at the end of the 2014/15 season. Mourinho loves big powerful players and valued Fellaini’s disruptive presence on the pitch last season. He’s been linked wit
